Divlab

I spent 70 dollars to go surfing with my friends. 

I got what I wanted:
1) Spent time with people
2) Did something HARD

If this were Anarres, I would have gone down to Divlab and asked for a posting. Then 50 or so of us would have spent the day clearing rocks or planting trees. I might have made a friend, and I would have certainly ended the day exhausted. 

My EA brain has divided the world into "work" and "play". Work is calculated. It's true that planting trees is not my highest calling. Play is just necessary maintenance. They are the same word in Pravic. 

I know, don't confuse "warm fuzzies" for "utilons". . . but when I can't get out of bed in the morning, all I want is for someone to show up at my door, press a shovel into my hands, and tell me to hop in the back of the truck. They'll serve us breakfast at the site. 

And at the end of a long day, when my friends finish eating the food I made, I hope they'll let me do the dishes while I listen to them drink wine and gossip.
